Shashi Godbole is an Indian homemaker and small entrepreneur who arrives in New York for the first time carrying a familiar family wound: her limited English is treated as a joke at home. Sridevi is Shashi, quietly navigating unfamiliar streets, shop counters, and social situations while secretly enrolling in a spoken-English class in Manhattan. At home, her husband (Adil Hussain) shrugs off the problem, but in class Shashi finds a space where language, status, and self-respect are all up for renegotiation. Everyday exchanges become the stakes as she tries to speak for herself in a city that keeps demanding it.
