Princess Merida, voiced by Kelly MacDonald, is a gifted archer in the Scottish Highlands who refuses to follow a sacred marriage custom laid down by her royal parents. After a clash with Queen Elinor, Emma Thompson's stern, tradition-minded monarch, Merida seeks help from a strange Wise Woman and makes a wish that throws the kingdom into disorder. As rival clan leaders bicker in her father's hall and danger closes in, Merida has to reckon with the fallout of her rebellion, her family, and the old laws she tried to escape.
