Better Man

Jonno Davies is Robbie Williams in a fantasy-leaning account of the singer’s path from childhood to Take That and then solo superstardom, with the star visualized on screen as a monkey. Moving from the 1980s into the 2000s, the film follows chart success, stage spectacle and the pressures that come with sudden fame, including depression, addiction and strained family ties. Steve Pemberton and Alison Steadman figure into the home front as Robbie’s ambitions and self-destructive streak grow harder to contain.
