In 1963, as the massive Vajont dam rises beneath Mount Toc, journalist Tina Merlin keeps warning that the mountain and the reservoir are a deadly combination. Officials, engineers, and geologists wave off the danger, even as doubts grow around the project meant to bring electricity across Italy. Michel Serrault and Daniel Auteuil are among the principal figures in a dramatization that tracks the ignored reports, the political omissions, and the mounting crisis before the landslide that sent a wall of water into the towns below.
