Hunger
CrimeDocumentaryDramaThriller96 min
In 1981 Northern Ireland, IRA prisoner Bobby Sands begins a hunger strike inside the Maze prison after Republican inmates are denied political status by the British government. Michael Fassbender is Sands, one man among prisoners already locked in a brutal standstill with guards over uniforms, discipline, and control. Liam Cunningham’s priest enters as a sounding board and challenger as the protest turns into a test of conviction, faith, and physical endurance. The film stays close to prison routines and the machinery of punishment during one of the most contested episodes of The Troubles.
