Victoria & Abdul

ComedyDocumentaryDrama112 min

In the later years of her reign, Queen Victoria forms an unlikely bond with Abdul Karim, a young Indian clerk brought to Britain for her Golden Jubilee. Judi Dench is the monarch at the center of a rigid royal household, and Ali Fazal's Abdul quickly becomes more than a ceremonial attendant. As their friendship grows, the court closes ranks around questions of class, race, protocol, and influence. Drawn from true events, the film follows a relationship that unsettles the people around the Queen and opens a new perspective inside the formality of the British court.
