Edward Bloom has spent a lifetime turning his past into legend, leaving his son Will to figure out where the stories end and the man begins. Ewan McGregor is the younger Edward in a chain of elaborate flashbacks, where a circus, a witch, and far-flung detours become part of his personal mythology. In the present, Albert Finney's older Bloom is still charming and impossible to pin down, especially for Billy Crudup's skeptical Will. Directed by Tim Burton, the film moves between family tension and storybook invention as Will pieces together a portrait of a father who has always preferred tall tales to plain facts.
