A tax collector heads to the Larkins’ farm to demand payment on Pop’s back taxes, only to find himself staying long enough to figure out what the family actually earns. Lorenzo Charlton (Tony Randall) arrives with a ledger and a plan; Debbie Reynolds is Mariette, Pop’s daughter, whose charm keeps throwing off the math. As Charlton tries to put a value on the farm, the visit turns into a comic standoff between his buttoned-up sense of order and a household that treats money, rules, and courtship on its own terms.
