The Abyss

ActionAdventureDramaMysterySci-FiThriller140 min

When a nuclear submarine mysteriously sinks, a civilian oil-rig crew is recruited to join a deep-sea search-and-rescue mission alongside Navy forces. Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio are among the divers and engineers sent thousands of feet below the surface, where damaged machinery, isolation, and the pressure of the ocean turn the recovery effort into something far more uncertain. As the team pushes deeper into the abyss, they encounter a force no one on board was prepared to explain. James Cameron sets the film in a cold, claustrophobic underwater world of diving suits, submersibles, and flickering lights on the ocean floor.
