Sean Penn is Mick O'Brien, a Chicago teen drifting through petty crime until a botched robbery leaves him facing a juvenile lockup where violence is routine and respect is settled through revenge. On the outside, Mick is still tied to his girlfriend, with Ally Sheedy bringing a fragile sense of normal life to the margins of the story. Inside the detention center, every grudge carries weight, and the threat of retaliation hangs over even small encounters. What begins as a street-level crime story quickly narrows into a fight for survival inside a system built on intimidation.
