The Woman King

ActionAdventureDramaWar135 min

In the 1820s, the West African Kingdom of Dahomey is defended by the Agojie, an all-female warrior regiment led by Viola Davis's General Nanisca. As Nanisca trains a new generation of fighters and prepares them for war, the kingdom faces enemies determined to tear apart its way of life and profit from the slave trade. Thuso Mbedu is among the young recruits coming up under Nanisca's command, while John Boyega's king must weigh the cost of the battles ahead. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical drama centers its action on strategy, loyalty, and the discipline of women entering combat.
