Drama154 min

In the early 1900s American South, Celie is forced into marriage and spends decades enduring abuse, loss, and separation while holding on to the hope of seeing her sister again. Whoopi Goldberg is Celie, moving from a frightened girl to a woman slowly claiming a life of her own, while Danny Glover’s Mister Albert Johnson rules the household with cruelty. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the story follows Celie across forty years as the women around her, including Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey, become vital sources of companionship, defiance, and change.
