Stranded in the Arizona desert, gunfighter Wes Steele (Ray Milland) rides into town after finding the aftermath of a stagecoach robbery with no survivors. Instead of being believed, he’s accused of the massacre and then linked to the murder of the local banker. With the town turning on him and the sheriff laid up with yellow fever, Steele takes cover in the basement of the lawman’s house, where the sheriff’s daughter, played by Mary Murphy, becomes his uneasy ally. Ward Bond is the bedridden sheriff at the center of a manhunt built on rumor, fear, and a stranger’s bad timing.
