The Counterfeiters

CrimeDramaWar99 min

Karl Markovics is Salomon “Sally” Sorowitsch, a Jewish counterfeiter once known in 1940s Berlin as the “King of the Counterfeiters” until his arrest lands him in Sachsenhausen. There, Nazi officers force him into Operation Bernhard, a secret scheme to forge British bank notes for the war effort. Alongside other prisoners selected for their specialist skills, including men played by August Diehl and Devid Striesow, Sally is given a place in a workshop set apart from the rest of the camp. The arrangement offers better conditions than most prisoners will ever see, while binding every task to the machinery of the regime.
