Bruce Robertson is a corrupt Scottish cop chasing a promotion while a murder investigation lands on his desk and his life sinks deeper into drugs, drink, and hallucinations. James McAvoy’s Bruce spends as much time humiliating suspects and sabotaging coworkers as he does working the case, with Jamie Bell’s Ray Lennox among the colleagues he’s determined to undercut. As Christmas closes in, Bruce keeps manipulating everyone around him — superiors, friends, strangers — even as his behavior turns more erratic and his grip on the job starts to slip.
