The Beach

Leonardo DiCaprio is Richard, a twenty-something backpacker in Bangkok who comes into possession of a strange map rumored to lead to a hidden beach untouched by the outside world. He follows it into Thailand with a French couple, with Virginie Ledoyen and Guillaume Canet alongside him on the search, and reaches an isolated island colony built around its own rules. Directed by Danny Boyle, the film moves from travel fantasy into the tensions of communal life, as Richard finds that paradise comes with secrecy, shifting loyalties, and dangers just beyond the shoreline.
