The Illusionist
AnimationDramaFantasy80 min
A French illusionist arrives in Scotland for work and meets a young woman in a small village who takes his stage magic for something wondrous and true. Their move to Edinburgh brings them into a world of boarding houses, theaters, shop windows, and rainy streets, where the distance between stage illusion and ordinary life grows harder to ignore. Jean-Claude Donda voices the magician with almost no dialogue, while Eilidh Rankin gives the young woman an open, hopeful presence. Sylvain Chomet’s animation relies on gesture, silence, and closely observed city detail as their bond shifts in the background of a changing entertainment world.
