In 1976, Jackie Moon is the owner, promoter, coach, and star player of the Flint Michigan Tropics, the worst team in the ABA, just as a merger with the NBA threatens to fold the league’s bottom clubs. Will Ferrell is Jackie, a one-hit wonder who bought the team with profits from his hit song “Love Me Sexy” and now has to drag the Tropics into the top four to survive. With Woody Harrelson and André Benjamin in the lineup, the film follows a last-ditch season of publicity stunts, locker-room chaos, and increasingly urgent games on the road to a possible NBA spot.
