In late-1920s Berlin, police inspector Gereon Rath arrives from Cologne on a secret assignment and finds a city running on vice, blackmail, and political panic. While he hunts for a porn ring tied to people who could ruin careers, a separate case involving an extortion racket and a mysterious trainload of contraband pulls him deeper into the capital’s underworld. Street violence flares, Soviet plots and nationalist schemes overlap, and every institution seems for sale. As Gereon works with typist-turned-police assistant Charlotte Ritter, played by Liv Lisa Fries, the investigations keep widening, linking nightclubs, gangsters, and the collapsing order of the Weimar Republic.
