Bicycle Thieves

Drama93 min

In postwar Rome, Antonio finally lands a job pasting up posters, only to have the bicycle he needs to keep it stolen on his first day. Lamberto Maggiorani is Antonio, a father racing across the city before unemployment pulls his family under, while young Bruno (Enzo Staiola) trails beside him through markets, streets, and crowded tenements. Directed by Vittorio De Sica, the film follows their search through a battered city where work is scarce, pride is fragile, and a missing bicycle can decide everything.
