A British covert mission sends ex-Vietnam pilot Mitchell Gant into the Soviet Union to steal Firefox, a prototype fighter rumored to be undetectable by radar and capable of shifting the Cold War balance. Clint Eastwood is Gant, a skilled flyer still carrying the strain of his wartime past as he moves through Moscow under KGB scrutiny and toward the heavily guarded aircraft. Directed by Eastwood, the film stays close to the mechanics of the operation, from espionage and surveillance on the ground to the high-tech threat posed by the experimental jet. Nigel Hawthorne and Freddie Jones appear in the supporting ensemble.
