Hiroyuki Sanada is Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai in mid-19th-century Japan, a widower scraping by as a clan bureaucrat while raising two daughters and caring for his aging mother. His days are defined less by battle than by money troubles, household duties, and the rigid expectations of rank. When a childhood friend returns, Rie Miyazawa’s Tomoe brings the possibility of companionship into a life narrowed by grief and obligation. As the feudal order begins to shift, Seibei finds himself caught between family needs, clan loyalty, and the code of honor that governs his place in the world.
