In 1973 San Fernando Valley, Gary Valentine and Alana Kane keep circling each other as they grow up, run around, and stumble through first love. Cooper Hoffman is Gary, a teenage actor still in high school; Alana Haim’s Alana is an older young woman with no clear next step. Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film follows their stop-and-start connection through the Valley’s audition rooms, family life, small business schemes, and brushes with politics and show business.
