In the Valley of Elah

CrimeDramaMysteryThriller124 min

A retired military policeman goes looking for his son, a soldier who vanishes just after returning from Iraq and leaving his base without permission. What begins as a search for a missing man turns into a murder investigation, with the father pushing past stonewalling from the Army and local indifference to piece together his son’s last days. As he works with a police detective, played by Charlize Theron, each lead points to a larger pattern of trauma, silence, and damage carried home from war. Tommy Lee Jones is at the center of a story that follows one family’s loss into a wider reckoning with what service has done to the men sent to fight.
