In New York City, four young women try to build adult lives before they know how to pay for them, sustain them, or make sense of what they want. Hannah, played by Lena Dunham, plans to become a writer just as financial support from her parents falls away, pushing her into bad jobs, worse decisions, and a shaky sense of independence. Around her, friendships tighten and fray as each woman stumbles through sex, work, ambition, and the rules they thought adulthood would follow.
