The Tender Bar

DramaRomance106 min

Growing up fatherless on 1970s Long Island, J.R. finds his center in a neighborhood bar run by his Uncle Charlie, where a loose circle of regulars becomes the father figures missing at home. Tye Sheridan is the older J.R.; Ben Affleck’s Uncle Charlie gives him advice, swagger, and a steady presence as he moves toward college, first love, and a writing life. At home, Lily Rabe’s Dorothy is pushing for more than her family’s cramped household can offer, while Christopher Lloyd brings bluster and grudging support as J.R.’s grandfather.
