They Shall Not Grow Old

DocumentaryWar109 min

Peter Jackson rebuilds World War I from archival film and the words of the men who fought it, tracing the path from enlistment to trench warfare and the routines of the front. Voices from veterans including Edmund Blunden and Walter “Josh” Grover shape the narration, drawn from recorded interviews rather than contemporary commentary. Much of the material comes from previously unseen footage held by the Imperial War Museum, restored and colorized from film shot more than a century ago, with added sound bringing faces, mud, marches, and waiting crowds into sharper focus.
