In a future ruined by plague, scavenger James Cole is sent back in time to stop the outbreak before it begins. Landing in the present, he is dismissed as unstable and locked up, where his warnings pull in Dr. Cassandra Railly, a virologist who becomes tied to his mission. As Cole hunts for the origin of the virus, every jump leaves him with less certainty about what he can change and who is manipulating events. The trail points toward the mysterious Army of the 12 Monkeys, but each answer opens onto a larger conspiracy stretching across decades.
