In 17th-century Japan, two Portuguese Jesuit priests travel in secret to find the mentor rumored to have renounced his faith and to continue their Catholic mission. Andrew Garfield is one of the young missionaries, with Adam Driver beside him as his fellow priest; Liam Neeson’s missing mentor hangs over the journey from the start. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film moves through remote villages, hidden Christian communities, and the machinery of the shogunate, where suspected converts face interrogation, betrayal, and torture.
