The Crusades

ActionAdventureDramaFamilyWar125 min

King Richard the Lionhearted launches a crusade toward Jerusalem, and a politically necessary marriage ties England’s warrior king to Berengaria of Navarre as the campaign gathers force. Henry Wilcoxon is Richard, with Loretta Young’s Berengaria caught between court ceremony and the march to war. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille, the film frames the 12th-century conflict through royal bargaining, religious fervor, and large-scale battle scenes, while Ian Keith brings a commanding presence to Saladin on the other side of the struggle for the Holy City.
