After moving to Cradle Bay, teenager Steve Clark starts noticing that his new high school has a strange way of handling problem kids. James Marsden is Steve, a wary newcomer watching the Blue Ribbons — polished students devoted to clean living and academic excellence — become the model everyone is pushed to follow. When Nick Stahl’s Gavin, one of the local outsiders, suddenly joins their ranks, Steve teams with Rachel (Katie Holmes) to find out what changed him. As classmates shift overnight and the adults close ranks, Steve begins to suspect that the town’s obsession with perfect behavior hides something engineered.
