Barclay (Randolph Scott), a lone rider drifting through California, is drawn into a tense standoff between an outlaw bank robber and a greedy rancher. After crossing paths with Tanner, Forrest Tucker’s escaped convict pulls the stranger into a hunt tied to hidden gold, while a corrupt landowner closes in from the other side. Dorothy Malone appears as the rancher’s daughter, one of the first people in town to size Barclay up when he arrives.
