Billie Frank is a young New York singer whose break comes fast, just as her relationship with an established nightclub DJ begins to shape both her sound and her career. Mariah Carey's Billie starts out doing backup work in the club scene before the music industry takes notice, while Max Beesley is Dice, the boyfriend with connections and growing influence over her rise. As Billie moves toward solo pop stardom, the film follows the pressure that comes with sudden success, industry attention, and a romance that is no longer separate from business. Ann Magnuson and Terrence Howard appear among the figures around Billie's climb.
