On the South Side of Chicago, the Gallagher kids are mostly raising themselves while their father, Frank, drifts between schemes, binges, and brief appearances at home. Fiona holds the household together, stretching money, dodging crises, and trying to keep her brothers and sister fed, in school, and out of trouble. Every small gain is fragile: rent comes due, jobs fall through, neighbors interfere, and one bad choice can throw the whole family into chaos. As Frank’s selfishness keeps wrecking whatever stability they build, the Gallaghers turn hustling, arguing, and sticking together into their way of surviving. William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum anchor a family story where survival is messy, funny, and rarely simple.
