Out of Africa
DramaRomance161 min
Meryl Streep is Karen Blixen, a Danish aristocrat who arrives in Kenya in the early 1900s expecting a marriage and a dairy farm, only to find herself tied to a coffee plantation and an unreliable husband. As Bror (Klaus Maria Brandauer) drifts through affairs and safari life, Karen learns the demands of the land and the social codes around her. Robert Redford’s Denys Finch Hatton, a big-game hunter with a freer way of living, becomes an important part of that new world. Drawn from Blixen’s autobiographical writing, the film follows her changing life in East Africa through romance, illness, work, and loss.
