A slippery promoter gets tangled up with opera patrons, rival tenors, and two young singers trying to be heard. Groucho Marx is Otis B. Driftwood, hustling his way through high society, while Chico Marx’s Fiorello schemes on behalf of an unknown tenor, Ricardo Baroni (Allan Jones), whose future is tied to soprano Rosa Castaldi, with Kitty Carlisle in the role. Harpo turns up as the brothers’ silent wildcard as contracts, trunks, and egos pile onto an Atlantic crossing. The comedy keeps colliding with arias and backstage sabotage as the action heads for the Metropolitan Opera.
