Love in the Time of Cholera
DramaRomance139 min
After a prominent doctor dies in Colombia just after the Great War, a man appears at the funeral to tell the widow he has loved her for more than 50 years. The story then reaches back to their youth, when Florentino Ariza first sees Fermina Daza and begins a courtship carried by letters, interruptions, and long separation. Javier Bardem is Florentino, first a telegraph boy and later an older suitor still fixed on the same woman; Giovanna Mezzogiorno's Fermina moves from teenage romance into marriage as the years pass around them. Mike Newell directs a decades-spanning adaptation shaped by illness, class, and persistence.
