As graduation nears, top student Leigh Ann sees her valedictorian standing and scholarship hopes threatened by a failing history grade from the school's most feared teacher, Mrs. Tingle. Katie Holmes is Leigh Ann, while Helen Mirren's Mrs. Tingle turns a classroom grudge into a private war after Leigh Ann and two friends try to fix the situation and end up holding the teacher in her own house. Barry Watson and Marisa Coughlan are the classmates pulled into the mess as loyalties shift, rumors spread, and Mrs. Tingle starts playing each of them against the others.
