After an Apache attack wipes out a wagon train, a small band of settlers can survive only by following Comanche Todd. Richard Widmark is Todd, a white man who has spent most of his life with the Comanches and is also wanted for the murder of three men. As the group moves through dangerous country, fear of another attack is matched by suspicion of the guide they now depend on. Felicia Farr and Susan Kohner are among the survivors in a story built around the uneasy bargain between frontier families and a man who stands outside their world.
