Nineteen-year-old Tomek spends his lonely evenings watching the woman across the courtyard through binoculars, building an idea of her life from a distance. In Warsaw, that neighbor is Magda, an artist in her thirties; Grażyna Szapołowska brings a guarded, adult composure to her opposite Olaf Lubaszenko’s shy, isolated Tomek. When the two finally meet, the arrangement of watcher and watched gives way to something more direct and more uncertain. Directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, the film stays close to apartment windows, daily routines, and the uneasy line between desire, projection, and intimacy.
