Kagemusha: The Shadow Warrior
ActionAdventureDramaWar180 min
A petty thief in 16th-century Japan is recruited to impersonate the warlord Takeda Shingen, keeping rival clans at bay by becoming a living political decoy. Tatsuya Nakadai carries the double role of criminal and ruler, with Tsutomu Yamazaki among the clan leaders trying to preserve the illusion after Shingen’s death. As the deception holds, the impostor is drawn deeper into court ritual, military strategy, and the weight of a name that isn’t his. Akira Kurosawa stages the story on a vast Sengoku-era canvas of armor, banners, and battlefield formations, tying personal identity to the unstable politics of feudal Japan.
