Aubrey Plaza is Karen, a single mother who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll for his birthday, unaware that the high-tech toy has malfunctioned in a dangerous way. Reworking the 1988 story for a connected-device world, the film trades an old-fashioned plaything for an AI companion designed to learn from its owner and fit into the home. Mark Hamill voices Chucky, whose friendly programming starts to warp as the doll becomes increasingly hostile around Andy, Karen, and the people closest to them.
