The Express

Drama130 min

Rob Brown is Ernie Davis, the Syracuse University running back whose rise from a difficult childhood to national stardom made him the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy. As Davis becomes the face of a major college football program, Dennis Quaid’s coach Ben Schwartzwalder drives him through punishing practices and high-pressure games while racism follows him onto road trips, into stadiums, and through campus life. Built around Davis’s years at Syracuse, the film tracks both his emergence as a football hero and the barriers surrounding that success.
