Ajay Dixit lives like a local celebrity in his town, a high-school history teacher whose status depends on the polished image he has built around himself. Varun Dhawan is Ajay, and when circumstances send him to Europe on a World War II trail, he has to make the trip with his newlywed wife, played by Janhvi Kapoor, despite a marriage that is already strained. Moving through unfamiliar cities and the history Ajay teaches from afar, the couple are pushed into close quarters as his bluster, insecurity, and home life start colliding.
