Shah Rukh Khan is a young man from a middle-class family who wants a future in music, even as his father pushes back on life with the band. Suchitra Krishnamoorthi is the lead singer he loves, but she sees him mainly as a friend. As he tries to hold onto his place in the group and get closer to her, family pressure, rehearsal-room friendships, and romance keep colliding. The film follows his uneven path through ambition, disappointment, and young love, with songs woven into the life of a musician still trying to figure out where he belongs.
