The Prince of Tides

DramaRomance132 min

Summoned to New York after his twin sister’s suicide attempt, Nick Nolte is Tom Wingo, a troubled Southern man asked to help fill in the gaps of her past. Barbra Streisand’s Dr. Susan Lowenstein, the psychiatrist treating Tom’s sister, draws him into long conversations about a family marked by an abusive father and buried childhood trauma. As Tom revisits the damage he has spent years outrunning, the film moves between Manhattan and the coastal Southern world he comes from, with their sessions deepening into an affair that complicates both his marriage and Susan’s professional role.
