A young woman takes a job as live-in caretaker for the reclusive Zenobia Dollard, only to discover that her employer has a secret use for her. Gale Sondergaard is Zenobia, an eerie old woman who drains blood from the girl each night to feed a strange plant. The caretaker, played by Brenda Joyce, is soon trapped in a house where dependence, deception, and a growing physical weakness begin to turn care into captivity.
