Willem Dafoe is Martin, a mercenary sent from Europe by an anonymous biotech company into the Tasmanian wilderness to track the last surviving Tasmanian tiger. Operating under the cover of an environmental scientist, he moves through dense bush and a nearby community split by suspicion, grief, and hostility toward outsiders. Frances O'Connor and Sam Neill are among the locals caught in the tension around Martin’s arrival as his assignment grows more complicated than a simple hunt. Against the cold landscape and the possibility of a creature thought extinct, the film keeps its focus on secrecy, survival, and what Martin has really been hired to bring back.
