After his wife's death, a hospital doctor starts hearing messages that seem to come through patients who have had near-death experiences. Kevin Costner is the physician at the center of it, grieving and increasingly drawn away from clinical certainty as each new account points back to the woman he lost. Susanna Thompson is the late wife whose memory — and possible contact from beyond — keeps pulling him deeper into a mystery shaped by hospital corridors, private grief, and questions of faith.
