Shameik Moore is Malcolm, a straight-A high school senior trying to keep his head down in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood while juggling SATs, college applications, and interviews. A chance invitation to an underground party blows up that careful routine, sending him into a fast-moving mess where image, money, and survival all get tangled together. Rick Famuyiwa’s film keeps Malcolm’s geek identity and love of hip-hop at the center, with Kiersey Clemons and Tony Revolori in the orbit around him as one night starts pushing his future in a different direction.
